Christmas Concert

We have started practicing our Christmas Concert and it is going well. Look for a note to come home about costume ideas.

No School Today

There is an inservice today so no school.

Halloween

Halloween is Thursday this week and we will be participating in a few things.  In the morning, we will go "trick or treating" for non-perishable food items for our local food bank.  In the afternoon, there will be a costume parade and activities in the classroom.

Upcoming Events

Popcorn will be served this week for those students that ordered.

Moomania is on October 30 and we will travel to Brandon to take part.

On October 31 in the morning, we will go "trick or treating" for donations to the local food bank.
        -Costume parade and activities will be in the afternoon.

Home reading pages for October are due on November 1.

Welcome to October!  We will have a Halloween activity day on October 31.  Home reading starts this month too!

Open House 2013

 

On Thursday, the Open House will take place from 6-7:30 pm. Come on down for a free hot dog and buy a book at the Book Fair.

Back in the Swing of Things

If you have not returned the forms that went home Wednesday, please send those in as soon as possible.

As a parent, have you ever picked up a book and wondered if it a good reading level for your child?  This link on  Scholastic has a tool that will let you know the reading level of a book.  Just type in the title and find out if it a good choice.

Happy Mother's Day!  Hope you have a wonderful day and get spoiled by your children. 

Banana Split Smoothie

Some of the students were asking for the recipe for the smoothie they had during our wellness day to day.  Here it is:
2 cups 1% chocolate milk
2 cups low-fat strawberry-flavored yogurt
1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
1 banana

Peel banana.  Add banana, frozen strawberries, yogurt, and chocolate milk to blender.  Blend until smooth.

Wellness Day

Tomorrow is our Wellness day.  The students will rotate through sessions in the afternoon.  The spelling test will be in the morning.

Special Person Day

What a great turn out for the Special Person Day we held on Thursday, April 18!  The students and their special people had a cookie and juice and then were able to make a bookmark.  Many of the students read a book with their special person.

Puddles

The puddles are starting!  If your child gets chased by puddles regularily, please send an extra pair of socks and/or pants to keep them comfortable after they have been attacked;)

Literacy Block

We are continuing our work in our Literacy Block.  This is a sample of the Word Work portion of the block.  There is also Work on Writing, Read to Self, Read to Someone and Guided Reading with the teacher.

There will not be a Monday Memo this week since a newsletter came home the day before Spring Break. 

Back to Class

I hope everyone had a great spring break!  Too bad it had to be one of the coldest we've had.  I was hoping to return to lots of puddles and no snow but that didn't happen. 

Spelling Update

Since Friday is our Spring Fling, the spelling test for this week has been declared cancelled.  The students worked really hard on the Word Work this week so they had some practice with the words.

This Week's Reminders

Lunch orders due tomorrow.  Hamburgers with a side of chips will be served on Friday.

If you would like to donate to the Dream Factory, we will accept donations until Friday.

Spring Fling will be Friday afternoon.

                *Pay $1.00 towards the Dream Factory to help make dreams come true for children in Manitoba battling a life-threatening illness
